China’s Commitment to a Stronger Relationship with Vietnam
Chinese Premier Li Qiang recently held a meeting with Vietnamese Party General Secretary and President Tô Lâm in Beijing, where he underscored China’s consistent prioritization of its relationship with Vietnam in its policy of neighborhood diplomacy. Premier Li extended a warm welcome to Lâm, who is making his inaugural state visit to China since assuming his new leadership role. Li highlighted that Lâm’s visit underscores the high importance and top priority that the Vietnamese Party and State attribute to the bilateral relationship.
In response, Lâm reaffirmed Vietnam’s continuous consideration of the development of friendly neighborliness and comprehensive cooperation with China as a consistent policy, a strategic choice, and a top priority in its foreign policy. Both leaders expressed satisfaction at the historic progress in the relationship between the two countries, with significant achievements such as strengthened political trust, flourishing trade collaboration, and robust growth in Chinese investments in Vietnam.
During their meeting, they reached an agreement to expand cooperation in crucial areas such as foreign affairs, defense and security, as well as to enhance locality-to-locality connectivity and people-to-people exchange. Lâm welcomed China’s involvement in developing railway projects that link the two nations and also urged China to continue opening its market for high-quality agricultural products from Vietnam.
In alignment with Lâm’s sentiments, Premier Li expressed readiness to sustain exchanges at all levels and advance bilateral relations in accordance with specified orientations. They deliberated on regional and international issues of mutual concern and agreed to collaboratively control and effectively resolve disagreements, uphold peace and stability at sea, and uphold international law, particularly the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea. Both leaders underscored the importance of preserving peace and stability in the region.
It is evident that China is fully devoted to further strengthening its ties with Vietnam and is actively working to promote mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries.
