Egypt Seeks Iraq’s Assistance for Injured Palestinians Amid Crisis

Egypt has requested Iraq’s assistance in treating injured Palestinians amid a severe humanitarian crisis, with Iraqi officials coordinating efforts to deliver medical aid. Healthcare systems in Gaza and Lebanon are overwhelmed, facing critical shortages of medical supplies and personnel due to ongoing conflicts and high casualty rates.

Egypt has formally requested assistance from Iraq concerning the treatment of injured Palestinians amidst a growing humanitarian crisis. Zaidan Khalaf Al-Attwani, who leads the Iraqi Supreme Committee for Relief of the Palestinian and Lebanese Peoples, noted that the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been instructed to collaborate with Egyptian officials to facilitate the delivery of medical aid and supplies. Currently, 86 Lebanese patients are receiving care in Iraqi shrine hospitals, and Iraq has admitted 21 injured Palestinians to the Medical City in Baghdad, where 18 have successfully recovered and returned home.

The ongoing conflict has severely impacted healthcare systems in both Gaza and Lebanon. In Gaza, the situation has deteriorated, with the death toll exceeding 44,000 and more than 104,000 injuries reported, leading to complete overwhelm within hospitals. Al-Shifa Hospital, recognized as the most significant medical facility in the area, has sustained substantial damage, further preventing it from functioning effectively. Additionally, there is a critical shortage of essential supplies including medical equipment, food, water, and fuel.

Lebanon faces a similarly dire situation with 3,768 deaths and nearly 15,700 injuries. The conflict has resulted in nearly 100 health facilities closing in the southern regions due to bombardments. Many hospitals are struggling to offer necessary services and have been forced to transfer critical patients to already strained hospitals. The limitations in resources and staffing continue to undermine the ability to provide appropriate care, compounded by frequent attacks on medical facilities and personnel.

The request for Iraq’s assistance stems from the escalated violence in the region, particularly affecting Palestinians in Gaza and the Lebanese population. A series of attacks and the humanitarian fallout has led to catastrophic health crises, resulting in excessive casualties and overwhelmed healthcare infrastructure. This collaborative effort signifies a growing regional response aimed at addressing the urgent medical needs prompted by ongoing conflicts and serves as a testament to regional solidarity during crises.

In summary, Egypt’s appeal for Iraq’s aid highlights the critical conditions faced by injured Palestinians amid escalating conflicts. With Iraqi hospitals already responding to domestic and regional medical emergencies, this cooperation aims to alleviate the humanitarian toll suffered in both Gaza and Lebanon. The efforts underscore the pressing need for medical supplies and support as the healthcare systems within these regions struggle for stability under unprecedented strain.
