The United States remains the most popular destination, accommodating 234,473 Indian students, closely followed by Canada with 233,532 and the United Kingdom with 136,921. The trend of Indian students pursuing overseas education has largely been upward since 2019, with the only significant dip occurring in 2020 due to pandemic-related travel restrictions, which led to a 55.7% decrease in enrolments. Despite ongoing diplomatic tensions between India and Canada since 2020, the latter has emerged as an attractive option for students because of its post-study work opportunities, allowing graduates to gain crucial work experience and a pathway to permanent residency.
