Inauguration of China’s First 400 MW Offshore Photovoltaic Park: A Milestone in Renewable Energy Innovation

The inauguration of China’s first 400 MW offshore photovoltaic park marks a significant milestone in the nation’s commitment to renewable energy innovation. This pioneering project, named the Yantai Zhaoyuan offshore solar farm, is spearheaded by Grand Sunergy, demonstrating the feasibility and advancement of photovoltaic technology in maritime settings.

Strategically situated in Laizhou Bay, the solar park boasts an alternating current (AC) capacity of 400 MW and an installed direct current (DC) capacity of 539.3274 MW, representing a substantial leap toward the integration of renewable energy sources within coastal environments. The modules employed in this installation are sourced from Grand Sunergy’s Seapower series, engineered specifically to withstand the unique environmental challenges posed by coastal regions, including high humidity, salt corrosion, and ultraviolet (UV) radiation exposure.

This project exemplifies the successful integration of cutting-edge technological solutions in demanding conditions. The photovoltaic systems utilize Heterojunction (HJT) technology, characterized by innovative features such as the incorporation of large cells, a dual-layer glass coating, and UV-resistant encapsulation films, which significantly enhance the modules’ durability and operational efficiency.

The harsh marine climate necessitates robust solar panels, which is why Grand Sunergy has meticulously developed their Seapower series to fulfill these stringent requirements. These modules, which utilize 210mm HJT cells, are reinforced by double glazing, UV-resistant encapsulation, and a butyl rubber edge sealing system designed to mitigate water penetration. Such enhancements are critical to sustaining performance and extending the lifespan of offshore solar installations, where the potential for accelerated wear is pronounced.

The technological advancements realized in this endeavor ensure heightened resilience against environmental challenges while simultaneously maximizing energy output. By effectively deploying high-efficiency modules in a marine environment, Grand Sunergy is solidifying its standing as a reliable provider of energy solutions adept at adapting to the evolving demands of the industry.

The Yantai Zhaoyuan 400 MW project not only underscores China’s innovative spirit in the renewable energy sector but also sets a paradigm for the utilization of marine resources in solar energy generation. The establishment of this offshore park, in conjunction with the implementation of state-of-the-art technologies, positions Grand Sunergy at the forefront of developing energy solutions that address contemporary environmental challenges.

This project represents not merely a technical success but also communicates a compelling message to the international energy community regarding the vast potential of offshore photovoltaic initiatives. It paves the way for future developments in offshore solar farms, thereby diversifying China’s energy portfolio and diminishing reliance on fossil fuels.
