Baidu to Launch Next-Gen AI Model Ernie 5.0 Amid Competitive Landscape
Baidu is set to release its next-generation AI model, Ernie 5.0, later this year, enhancing its multimodal capabilities amid growing competition from companies like DeepSeek. Baidu, the Chinese technology giant, is poised to launch an advanced iteration of its artificial intelligence model, Ernie 5.0, in the latter half of this year. Baidu was a pioneer among major Chinese firms introducing a chatbot similar to ChatGPT, rolling out its version named Ernie in March 2023; however, it has faced challenges as several other AI chatbots from startups and tech titans like Alibaba and ByteDance have emerged with enhanced capabilities. Although no official announcement regarding the launch of Ernie 5.0 has been made, the market is keenly observing Baidu’s next steps. Notably, OpenAI’s latest model, GPT-4o, was released in May 2024, while there is currently no clear timeline for the introduction of GPT-5.
