Uzbekistan Achieves Historic Success at Paris 2024 Olympics
Uzbekistan has achieved unprecedented success at the Paris 2024 Summer Olympic Games, marking its most prolific performance in Olympic history. The nation, represented by 90 athletes across 19 sports, amassed a total of 13 medals, consisting of eight gold, two silver, and three bronze. This impressive tally positions Uzbekistan as 13th in the global rankings for these Games.
Oybek Kasimov, the Secretary General of the National Olympic Committee of Uzbekistan, remarked on the extensive and thorough preparations undertaken leading up to these Olympics. He noted the establishment of preparation camps both within Uzbekistan and internationally, featuring the guidance of esteemed foreign coaches. “The breadth of sports in which our athletes participated has expanded, with our country making its debut in football, archery, women’s wrestling, and diving,” Kasimov stated, underscoring the commitment to enhancing competitive diversity.
Among the standout achievements, five gold medals were secured in boxing, complemented by one gold in judo, freestyle wrestling, and taekwondo, along with silver medals in athletics and taekwondo, and three bronze medals in judo and freestyle wrestling. Notably, boxers Bahadir Calalov and Hasanboy Dusmatov, alongside taekwondo competitor Ulugbek Rashitov, distinguished themselves by becoming Olympic champions for the second consecutive time.
Reflecting on its Olympic journey, Uzbekistan first participated independently at the Atlanta 1996 Olympics, where it secured a total of one silver and one bronze medal, resulting in a ranking of 58th. Over the years, Uzbekistan’s performances have improved markedly, achieving higher placements, culminating in a notable rise during the Rio 2016 Olympics, where the country ascended to 21st place with four golds among its medals. This positive trend continued with a 32nd placement at the Tokyo 2020 Games.
The remarkable leap to 13th place in Paris 2024 showcases Uzbekistan’s commitment to excellence in sports and the effective strategies adopted by its athletic programs. The achievements of its athletes not only reflect their personal dedication and skill but also the nation’s investment in fostering a strong sporting infrastructure. In conclusion, the Paris 2024 Olympics have indeed established a new benchmark for Uzbekistan’s athletic prowess and herald a promising future for sports in the nation.
