China’s Foreign Ministry Highlights Commitment to Climate Action and Global Cooperation
At the March 3, 2025 press conference, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Lin Jian discussed China’s contributions to the IPCC, its stance on U.S. tariffs, and cooperation with Pakistan in space exploration. He rejected U.S. accusations about Taiwan and COVID-19 origins, advocating for mutual respect in international relations.
During the regular press conference held on March 3, 2025, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Lin Jian addressed various pressing global issues. Lin highlighted China’s contributions to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) session held in Hangzhou, where the country shared its meteorological disaster management experiences. China consistently emphasizes its dedication to supporting developing nations in their green transition efforts and has developed innovative initiatives to support global climate governance.
On U.S. tariffs, Lin firmly reiterated that China opposes the U.S. decision to raise tariffs and stated that the government will take necessary actions to defend its interests. In response to recent agreements, he expressed optimism about growing cooperation in space with Pakistan, which succeeded in launching its astronaut into China’s space station.
Lin acknowledged the ongoing Ukraine crisis, reaffirming China’s neutral stance and commitment to a peaceful resolution. He also addressed questions surrounding the repatriation of Chinese nationals from Thailand, stressing that procedures were conducted legally, safeguarding their rights.
Refuting U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s allegations, Lin asserted that such comments reflect an outdated Cold-War mentality and emphasized the importance of mutual respect in U.S.-China relations. He rejected unfounded claims regarding COVID-19 origins as misleading and called for a collaborative approach to trace the virus’s origins. Furthermore, he remarked that viewing the Asia-Pacific as a battleground for geopolitical disputes contradicts regional aspirations.
Finally, Lin expressed that collective dialogues are crucial to counter unilateralism and trade protectionism. Emphasizing the need for cooperation, he noted that collaboration should be prioritized over divisive tactics, insisting that no winners arise from trade wars.
In conclusion, Lin Jian’s responses at the press conference articulated China’s commitment to international cooperation on climate issues, sovereign rights, and equitable dialogues in trade relations, reflecting a desire to foster stability and mutual respect globally.
In summary, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Lin Jian emphasized China’s role in global climate governance, defended the country’s actions against U.S. tariffs, and reinforced diplomatic relations with Pakistan in space exploration. He rejected accusations made by U.S. officials and condemned the politicization of trade and COVID-19 origins. Lin’s statements called for collaborative efforts to address global challenges and criticized any actions that jeopardize bilateral relations.
