Black Stars Urged to Approach Upcoming Matches with Confidence and Determination
Winfried Schäfer, Technical Advisor for the Black Stars, stresses the need for a confident approach in the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Madagascar. He insists on creating a motivating environment for the players, highlighting the necessity of securing vital points to improve Ghana’s chances of qualification for the 2026 World Cup.
Winfried Schäfer, the Technical Advisor for the Black Stars, has emphasized the necessity of entering the upcoming World Cup qualifiers with a mindset rooted in confidence and a determination to win. He asserts that Ghana must secure vital points from the matches against Chad and Madagascar to enhance its prospects for qualifying for the World Cup next year.
During an interview with the Ghana FA’s media team, Schäfer stated, “We have to go into the next two matches with confidence and a winning mentality. The players must understand that when they come here and return to their clubs, they should feel highly motivated and fit. No one should think, ‘Oh, now I have to go to Ghana, and the field is not good, the pitch is not good, the massage is not good.’ No, that is the first thing we have to change.”
Schäfer further pointed out that creating a positive environment is crucial for the players. He emphasized the need for players to feel happy when joining the national team. By fostering such conditions, he believes that Ghana can significantly advance toward qualifying for the tournament in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
At present, Ghana occupies second place in Group I after competing in four matches during the qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Should the Black Stars achieve victories against Chad and Madagascar later this month, they could elevate their position to the top of the group.
In summary, Winfried Schäfer has called for the Black Stars to approach the upcoming World Cup qualifiers with confidence and a winning mentality. The matches against Chad and Madagascar are crucial for Ghana’s qualification hopes. Emphasizing a supportive environment for players, Schäfer believes such changes can positively influence performance and help secure progression in the qualifiers.
