Aleksandra Miroslaw Nominated for Laureus World Action Sportsperson of the Year Award
Aleksandra Miroslaw, Olympic champion and record-breaking speed climber, has been nominated for the Laureus World Action Sportsperson of the Year Award. Her nomination celebrates her historic achievements, including winning the first standalone women’s Speed Olympic gold medal and breaking her own world record.
The International Federation of Sport Climbing has announced that speed climber Aleksandra Miroslaw has been nominated for the Laureus World Action Sportsperson of the Year Award. This recognition coincides with the 25th anniversary of the Laureus World Sports Awards, highlighting Miroslaw’s exceptional achievements, including her historical victory as the first female Speed Olympic gold medalist, where she also broke her own world record.
At 31 years old and hailing from Lublin, Poland, Miroslaw achieved a remarkable feat by lowering her world record time to 6.06 seconds during the event in Paris. Her competitive focus shifted primarily towards the Olympic Games, resulting in limited participation in the 2024 IFSC Speed World Cup, where she secured a gold medal during the March competition in Wujiang, China.
Upon receiving her nomination, Miroslaw stated, “It is a huge privilege and an honour to be nominated in Laureus World Action Sportperson of the Year by Laureus Academy. I am very excited and happy to be nominated with such amazing athletes. I believe that it is big step forward, not just for me, but also for our sport.”
IFSC President Marco Scolaris praised Miroslaw, asserting, “Aleksandra is the best of the best Speed climbers. Breaking records and winning World Cups on a regular basis culminated in her well-deserved Olympic gold medal. Now the nomination for Laureus Award nomination, I can only applaud her, again and again.” He further emphasized how this nomination highlights the prominence of speed climbing as a standalone event at the upcoming Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
Mirowslaw faces formidable competition for the award, including skateboarders Yuto Horigome and Arisa Trew, snowboarder Chloe Kim, surfer Caroline Marks, and mountain biker Tom Pidcock. The awards ceremony, marking its 25th anniversary, is set to take place in Madrid, Spain on April 21, 2025.
It is noteworthy that this is the second nomination for a climbing athlete after Tokyo 2020 gold medalist Alberto Ginés López was nominated in 2022, with climbing receiving a total of four nominations overall.
For further updates on IFSC events, information is available on the IFSC website and its digital channels, including Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, X, Threads, TikTok, and YouTube, with exclusive content for the Chinese audience through Douyin and Weibo.
In summary, Aleksandra Miroslaw’s nomination for the Laureus World Action Sportsperson of the Year Award underscores her remarkable achievements in sport climbing, particularly her groundbreaking Olympic victory. This award highlights not only her individual success but also brings greater attention to the sport of climbing. Her accomplishments pave the way for future athletes in the field, demonstrating the growing impact of climbing in the global sports arena.
