China-Aided School Achieves Remarkable Success in Botswana’s National Exams

Mmopane Primary School, aided by China, achieved a remarkable 94.3% pass rate in Botswana’s national exams, marking its second consecutive year at the top of Kweneng District. Celebrations included remarks from the Chinese Embassy and local officials, acknowledging the successful partnership and its impact on education in the community.

In a remarkable achievement, the China-aided Mmopane Primary School has once again topped the Kweneng District in Botswana, attaining a commendable pass rate of 94.3 percent in the 2024 Primary School Leaving Examination. This marks the second consecutive year of outstanding performance for the school, located approximately 15 kilometers northwest of Gaborone.

During a celebration in Mmopane village, Counselor Cui Yin from the Chinese Embassy extended her congratulations to the school for its exceptional results. She noted that 2024 marks the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Botswana, emphasizing China’s ongoing commitment to enhancing educational cooperation in Botswana, thereby fostering a strong bond of friendship between the countries.

Helen P. Manyeneng, the deputy speaker of Botswana’s National Assembly, expressed gratitude toward the Chinese government for their assistance in establishing Mmopane Primary School and enhancing its educational facilities. She remarked on the significant improvements in local educational conditions that support the growth of children in the community.

The headmistress of Mmopane Primary School, Gagoitsiwe Marata, conveyed appreciation for the persistent support from the Chinese Embassy and the Botswana government. She also acknowledged the critical roles played by teachers, parents, and students in achieving this success.

China’s assistance extends beyond Mmopane Primary School, with contributions made to other institutions such as Ramaeba Primary School in Kazungula, Kubung Primary School in Maun, and Dinokwane Primary School in Serowe.
