In response to President Donald Trump’s assertion regarding reciprocal tariffs, the Chinese Embassy in the United States declared its willingness to “fight till the end” in any war instigated by the U.S. This statement was made after Trump’s remarks during a congressional session, emphasizing that China is prepared for any form of conflict, whether it be a tariff war or trade war.

Trump expressed that numerous nations, including members of the European Union, China, Brazil, India, Mexico, and Canada, impose significantly higher tariffs on U.S. goods. He argued that the United States has faced unfair treatment regarding tariffs, noting instances where tariffs on imports exceed 100 percent while contending that China’s average tariff on American products is notably higher than that of the U.S.

Having raised previously imposed tariffs from 10 percent to 20 percent, Trump faced a complaint from China submitted to the World Trade Organization (WTO). China’s commerce ministry stated that the U.S. unilateral tax measures violate WTO rules and undermine the foundation of economic cooperation between the two nations.

Accusations by Trump against China included claims that it had not adequately addressed the trafficking of fentanyl into the U.S. However, the Chinese Foreign Ministry rebutted this, asserting that attributing responsibility for the fentanyl crisis to China is unjustified. They proposed that their efforts to assist the U.S. should be acknowledged rather than used as a pretext for tariff increases.

The Chinese ministry further stated that intimidation tactics would yield no positive outcomes, arguing that genuine resolution of the fentanyl issue requires equal dialogue between the two countries. They cautioned that anyone who utilizes maximum pressure on China miscalculates the situation and suggested that respectful consultation is the appropriate course of action.
