Brazil intends to utilize its presidency of the annual United Nations climate negotiations to advocate for multilateralism and scientific integrity, according to Andre Aranha Correa do Lago, the President-Designate of COP30. In his inaugural address at the U.N. General Assembly in New York, he underscored the necessity of international cooperation for the upcoming November summit, which will take place in Belem, situated in the Amazon region.

Correa do Lago’s remarks arise during a complex phase in U.S. climate policy, marked by President Donald Trump’s withdrawal from the Paris climate agreement.
