Chinese Government’s Special Representative Liu Yuxi Visits Sao Tome and Principe

Liu Yuxi, China’s Special Representative on African Affairs, visited Sao Tome and Principe on July 26, 2024. He met with key officials to discuss bilateral relations, emphasizing cooperation and preparations for the upcoming FOCAC summit. Sao Tome and Principe reaffirmed its commitment to the one-China principle and expressed appreciation for China’s support in its economic development.

On July 26, 2024, Liu Yuxi, the Special Representative of the Chinese Government on African Affairs and Ambassador for the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), visited Sao Tome and Principe. During his visit, he met with Gareth Haddad Guadalupe, the Foreign Minister, and Disney Ramos, the Economy Minister of Sao Tome and Principe. The Chinese Ambassador to Sao Tome and Principe, Xu Yingzhen, participated in these activities as well.

During his discussions, Liu Yuxi highlighted the steady development of bilateral relations between China and Sao Tome and Principe since the resumption of diplomatic ties. He noted the growing political mutual trust and highlighted the successful practical cooperation between the two nations. Liu also expressed China’s appreciation for Sao Tome and Principe’s commitment to the one-China principle and emphasized China’s readiness to strengthen their cooperative relationship further, particularly in light of the upcoming FOCAC summit.
