The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) reported that both nations evaluated the progress on initiatives set during the 22nd Annual Summit in July 2024 and subsequent discussions held in Kazan at the 16th BRICS Summit. At the summit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Vladimir Putin deliberated on enhancing cooperation across various sectors, including trade, security, and cultural exchanges.

Prime Minister Modi and President Putin previously convened in Moscow on July 9, 2024, to discuss the diversification of bilateral collaboration in areas such as transport, energy, civil nuclear initiatives, space exploration, and educational engagements. They also convened on October 22, 2024, during the BRICS Summit held in Kazan, Russia.

During his visit, Foreign Secretary Misri engaged with key Russian officials including Maxim Oreshkin (Deputy Chief of Staff), Yury Ushakov (Aide to the President), and Alexey Gruzdev (Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade), to further strengthen ties. Additionally, the consultations reviewed developments since the 25th session of the India-Russia Intergovernmental Commission, which took place in New Delhi in November 2024.
