Baba Ramdev Critiques Trump Over ‘Tariff Terrorism’ and Advocates for India’s Development
Baba Ramdev criticized President Donald Trump for promoting ‘tariff terrorism’ which he claims targets poorer nations. He emphasized the necessity for India’s development in the face of external pressures and commented on the importance of addressing religious terrorism. Furthermore, he rejected Aurangzeb as an ideal for India, promoting native leaders instead.
Baba Ramdev, noted yoga guru and co-founder of Patanjali, criticized U.S. President Donald Trump for perpetuating what he termed “tariff terrorism.” Ramdev asserted that Trump’s enforcement of reciprocal tariffs against other nations represents a form of economic bullying targeting poorer and developing countries, further characterizing it as a new age of “intellectual colonization.” He stated, “There is a new era of intellectual colonization. Amid this, ever since Donald Trump rose to power, he created a new world record of ‘tariff terrorism.’ He has ripped off democracy by threatening poor and developing nations.”
Ramdev emphasized the necessity for India to develop economically to resist external pressures and termed Trump’s actions as a path that leads the global landscape toward destruction. He urged unity among Indians to contribute to building a robust nation capable of confronting these global challenges.
Since his inauguration, Trump has implemented significant import taxes on products from major trading partners, namely Mexico, Canada, and China. Despite these tariffs, he announced a temporary exemption for the automotive sector from Mexico and Canada, with plans to enforce reciprocal tariffs beginning April 2. Trump’s tariff maneuvers have induced volatility and uncertainty in global financial markets, including in India.
In addition to his comments on tariffs, Ramdev condemned recent vandalism incidents at a Hindu temple in California, highlighting the broader issue of religious terrorism. He stated, “The entire world is suffering due to this religious terrorism. All the heads of different countries need to find a way out of this, and India should take an initiative for this.”
Addressing historical figures, Ramdev dismissed the notion that Mughal emperor Aurangzeb could serve as a national ideal, labeling him and his lineage as robbers who inflicted suffering upon the Indian populace. In contrast, he reaffirmed the importance of leaders like Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj as true exemplars for India.
In summary, Baba Ramdev’s remarks reflect a firm stance against U.S. economic policies under President Trump, designating them as ‘tariff terrorism’ and urging India towards development and unity. His broader commentary included calls for addressing religious terrorism and emphasizing indigenous ideals, advocating for a proactive Indian leadership role in tackling global challenges.
