Chinese Embassy in Zimbabwe Commemorates 40 Years of Medical Collaboration

On March 6, the Chinese Embassy in Zimbabwe celebrated the 40th anniversary of China Medical Teams’ presence with a reception where Cheng Yan and Deputy Minister Kwidini addressed attendees. Cheng acknowledged the teams’ contributions to strengthening Sino-Zimbabwean relations, while Kwidini recognized their role in enhancing local healthcare. Medals were awarded to the outgoing medical team to honor their service.

On March 6, the Chinese Embassy in Zimbabwe commemorated the 40th anniversary of the presence of Chinese medical teams in the country with a reception and medal-awarding ceremony. The event was attended by Cheng Yan, the Chargé d’Affaires a.i. of the Embassy, and Sleiman Kwidini, Deputy Minister of Health and Child Care of Zimbabwe. Additional guests included officials from the Zimbabwean Ministry of Health, local hospital staff, members from the 21st and 22nd China Medical Teams, along with representatives from Chinese enterprises and the local Chinese community.

Cheng Yan remarked on the invaluable contributions made by the China Medical Teams over the past four decades in enhancing China-Zimbabwe relations. He noted that these teams have consistently embodied the spirit of service, significantly advancing friendship between the two nations. Cheng expressed China’s intentions to collaborate with Zimbabwe to realize initiatives from the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation, focusing on enhancing bilateral health cooperation and establishing a global community oriented towards health for all.

During the ceremony, Deputy Minister Kwidini awarded medals to the members of the outgoing 21st China Medical Team on behalf of the Zimbabwean government. He conveyed heartfelt thanks to China for its ongoing support through medical teams, praising their exceptional contributions to treating health issues prevalent among the Zimbabwean populace and enhancing the nation’s healthcare services. Furthermore, he conveyed optimism regarding future collaboration in the health sector between China and Zimbabwe.

The reception marking the 40th anniversary of Chinese medical teams in Zimbabwe highlighted the enduring collaborative spirit between the two nations in the healthcare domain. Cheng Yan emphasized the significant role these teams have played in fostering bilateral relations, while Deputy Minister Kwidini underscored the value of continued cooperation in improving health services in Zimbabwe.
