Ukraine and US Engage in Peace Talks in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia
Negotiations between Ukrainian and US delegations on the Russo-Ukrainian war began in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, involving key Ukrainian officials. The focus includes strengthening bilateral relations and pursuing peace, with US officials suggesting Ukraine may need to concede occupied territories.
On March 11, 2025, discussions commenced between Ukrainian and American officials in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, aimed at addressing the ongoing Russo-Ukrainian conflict. The Ukrainian delegation, led by Andrii Yermak, Head of the Presidential Office, included key figures such as Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha and Defence Minister Rustem Umierov. A video shared on the Foreign Ministry’s Telegram channel captured their entrance into the negotiation venue.
The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry emphasized that the dialogues would prioritize bilateral relations and explore avenues for peace. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, on March 10, indicated that any resolution to the conflict would likely require Ukraine to make territorial concessions regarding areas occupied by Russia since 2014.
The initiation of talks in Jeddah marks a significant step in addressing the Russo-Ukrainian war. With notable Ukrainian officials participating, the discussions aim to enhance bilateral relations and seek peace. However, the prospect of territorial concessions remains a contentious element of the negotiations, as articulated by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
