Saudi Arabia and Ukraine Strengthen Trade and Investment Partnerships
Saudi Arabia and Ukraine have agreed to increase trade and investment partnerships following Ukrainian President Zelenskyy’s visit to the kingdom. The discussions included enhancing economic ties, reinstating the Saudi-Ukrainian Joint Business Council, and addressing the Ukrainian crisis in collaboration with the United States.
On Tuesday, Saudi Arabia and Ukraine committed to enhancing their trade volumes and expanding investment partnerships in key sectors. This declaration followed Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s official visit to the kingdom, where he had discussions with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in Jeddah. Both nations emphasized their dedication to increasing trade, which had reportedly risen by 9% in 2024.
The leaders also explored potential collaborative projects, aligning their initiatives with Saudi Vision 2030 and Ukraine’s reconstruction plans. The re-establishment of the Saudi-Ukrainian Joint Business Council was welcomed, marking a significant step towards fostering economic ties. Moreover, the dialogue addressed regional and global issues of shared concern, specifically focusing on the pursuit of lasting peace in Ukraine.
Saudi Arabia expressed optimism regarding international efforts to conclude the Ukrainian crisis in accordance with established international law, including the UN Charter. In addition to these economic discussions, Saudi Arabia is facilitating talks between the United States and Ukraine to address the ongoing Russian-Ukrainian conflict.
Previously, on February 18, Saudi Arabia coordinated a meeting involving U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov to discuss pathways to peace in Ukraine. Following Russia’s military offensive against Ukraine that began on February 24, 2022, Moscow’s demands for Ukraine to forgo ties to Western military alliances have been seen as violations of Ukrainian sovereignty.
Saudi Arabia and Ukraine’s commitment to enhancing trade and investment partnerships demonstrates their intent to strengthen bilateral relations. The culmination of Zelenskyy’s visit highlighted their focus on cooperative economic initiatives and regional stability, underlying the importance of joint efforts in achieving peace in Ukraine. Additionally, Saudi Arabia’s role in facilitating U.S.-Ukraine talks underscores its commitment to addressing the ongoing geopolitical crisis affecting the region.
