Russia Awaits U.S. Update on Ukraine Talks in Saudi Arabia
Russia anticipates updates from the U.S. regarding Ukraine negotiations in Saudi Arabia, as stated by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov. U.S. envoy Witkoff, missed the talks but is expected to meet with Putin in Moscow after discussions in Jeddah involve American and Ukrainian officials.
On March 11, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov announced that Russia anticipates receiving updates from the United States regarding the ongoing negotiations between the U.S. and Ukraine in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. This statement was made amid active discussions between American and Ukrainian teams, with Peskov highlighting the importance of U.S. efforts to achieve a peaceful resolution.
Peskov noted, “Today, there will be U.S.-Ukraine contacts in Jeddah. Somehow, the American side, which is looking for ways to reach a peaceful settlement, will inform us,” indicating expectations for a briefing from Washington on the talks.
Witkoff, originally intended to be part of the discussions between the U.S. and Ukraine but ultimately did not attend, is expected to travel to Moscow to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin following the March 11 sessions in Jeddah.
Alongside U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and National Security Adviser Mike Waltz, Witkoff has taken on a pivotal role in negotiations concerning the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, particularly following his involvement in talks with Russian officials in February that excluded Ukrainian representatives.
In summary, Russia is awaiting updates on U.S.-Ukraine talks occurring in Saudi Arabia, with Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov emphasizing the importance of the American perspective in achieving peace. Witkoff’s role as a negotiator highlights the intertwining dynamics of U.S. foreign policy in the region, and his impending trip to Moscow reflects ongoing diplomatic efforts.
