The U.S. State Department has expressed a high level of optimism regarding the U.S.-Ukraine discussions currently taking place in Saudi Arabia. State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce described the ongoing negotiations as “fantastic news for humanity” on social media. She emphasized the potential significance of the day and noted the importance of the discussions for people globally, indicating that further positive developments may arise.
The negotiations have been ongoing for more than five hours and include prominent figures from both nations. The Ukrainian delegation consists of Andriy Yermak, Head of the Presidential Office; Defense Minister Rustem Umerov; and Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha. On the U.S. side, the talks are represented by Secretary of State Marco Rubio and National Security Advisor Mike Waltz.
It is important to highlight that President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is present in Saudi Arabia but will not participate directly in the negotiations. Earlier, former U.S. President Donald Trump expressed hopes for favorable outcomes from these discussions. Furthermore, Andriy Yermak articulated Ukraine’s commitment to achieving peace and its readiness for negotiations, approaching the discussions with an “open” mindset.

Previously, high-level U.S. and Russian delegations engaged in discussions in Riyadh, lasting approximately 4.5 hours, marking the first such meeting since the escalation of military aggression in Ukraine.
