During the Jeddah talks, Zelensky’s chief of staff, Andriy Yermak, represented Ukraine. An eight-hour negotiation yielded a joint statement expressing Ukraine’s willingness to embrace a ceasefire proposal, contingent upon Russia’s agreement. The U.S. will resume intelligence sharing as part of the deal.

Zelensky outlined three major proposals for a successful ceasefire: cessation of aerial attacks, maritime calm, and initiatives aimed at confidence-building, focusing on the release of prisoners of war and the return of Ukrainian children. Trump, upon announcing the ceasefire, expressed hope that President Putin would endorse the proposal and facilitate peace.
