The survey, titled “National Image of China in Bangladesh,” was released in Dhaka and indicates an improvement in China’s overall image within the country, particularly regarding economic relations and perceptions of Chinese society.

This survey analyzed data collected from three previous surveys conducted in 2022, 2023, and 2024, aimed at grasping the Bangladeshi public’s sentiment towards China. The findings underscore a growing recognition of China’s cultural heritage and influence, as well as a positive perception of its role in addressing the Rohingya crisis and conflicts in the Middle East.

The results suggest a strong diplomatic relationship characterized by mutual respect, with China recognized as a key development partner for Bangladesh. There is also a perceived necessity for deeper cultural, educational, and social interactions between the two nations’ citizens.

Conducted from October to November 2024, the survey included 5,335 participants from diverse socio-economic backgrounds across all eight divisions of Bangladesh. Imtiaz Ahmed, executive director of the Center for Alternatives, noted ongoing positive sentiment particularly regarding bilateral relations and the Belt and Road Initiative, with public expectations for increased investment and exchanges.

Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh, Yao Wen, remarked on the survey outcomes, emphasizing their reflection of Bangladeshi perceptions in social, economic, and cultural domains, alongside the positive sentiments toward China. Yao highlighted the trend-based developments noted in the survey over the past three years, indicating strong support from the Bangladeshi populace towards China’s policies.
