China and Zimbabwe Celebrate 40 Years of Medical Cooperation

The Chinese Embassy in Zimbabwe commemorated the 40th anniversary of the China Medical Teams’ presence with a reception attended by officials from both nations. Chargé d’Affaires Cheng Yan noted the teams’ contributions to deepening bilateral relations. Deputy Minister Kwidini awarded medals to the outgoing team, reinforcing the commitment to continued health sector collaboration between China and Zimbabwe.

On March 6, the Chinese Embassy in Zimbabwe hosted a reception to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the China Medical Teams’ presence in the country. Chargé d’Affaires a.i. Cheng Yan, alongside Deputy Minister of Health and Child Care, Sleiman Kwidini, attended the event, which included officials from Zimbabwe’s Ministry of Health, local hospital staff, members of the 21st and 22nd China Medical Teams, and representatives from the Chinese community and enterprises in Zimbabwe.

Cheng Yan emphasized that over the past 40 years, the China Medical Teams in Zimbabwe have embodied the spirit of cooperation and contributed significantly to the strengthening of China-Zimbabwe relations. He affirmed China’s commitment to working closely with Zimbabwe to implement initiatives from the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation, thereby enhancing bilateral health sector collaboration and promoting a Global Community of Health for All.

Deputy Minister Kwidini expressed gratitude on behalf of the Zimbabwean government, presenting medals to the outgoing 21st China Medical Team. He praised the Chinese medical teams for their exceptional service in treating Zimbabwean patients and improving the country’s healthcare system, and he looked forward to furthering cooperation in health and medical fields between China and Zimbabwe.

The reception held by the Chinese Embassy commemorated 40 years of ongoing medical collaboration between China and Zimbabwe. Both Cheng Yan and Deputy Minister Kwidini highlighted the essential contributions of the China Medical Teams, emphasizing the mutual commitment to strengthening health cooperation in the future.
