Prof. Yunus’ Upcoming Visit to China: A Landmark in Bangladesh-China Relations
Chief Adviser Prof. Mohammad Yunus will visit China from March 26-29, a visit considered pivotal by Chinese Ambassador Yao Wen. The focus will be on enhancing manufacturing and economic cooperation, particularly the relocation of Chinese factories to Bangladesh. The visit includes participation in the Boao Forum for Asia and a bilateral meeting with President Xi Jinping, reinforcing ties as the countries celebrate their 50th diplomatic anniversary.
Chief Adviser Prof. Mohammad Yunus is set to undertake a significant visit to China from March 26-29, heralded by Chinese Ambassador Yao Wen as the most important visit by any Bangladeshi leader in the past 50 years. This visit aims to elevate Bangladesh-China relations and enhance collaboration, particularly in manufacturing. Shafiqul Alam, the Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary, stated that one major focus will be relocating Chinese factories to Bangladesh to transform it into a manufacturing hub, creating jobs and boosting exports.
During the visit, there will be numerous engagements including participation in the Boao Forum for Asia, which is likened to the “Davos of the East.” Alam mentioned that Prof. Yunus is expected to meet with CEOs of prominent global companies at this forum. Notably, the Chief Adviser will engage in his first bilateral meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping on March 28, coinciding with the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Bangladesh and China.
On March 29, Prof. Yunus will also attend a program at Peking University before returning to Dhaka. His visit includes attendance at the Boao Forum for Asia Annual Conference 2025, where he will participate in the inaugural session and meet with the Executive Vice President of the State Council of China on March 27. Ambassador Yao reaffirmed China’s steadfast partnership with Bangladesh regardless of political changes in the country, asserting that the cooperation is beneficial to both nations.
The Boao Forum for Asia this year focuses on the theme “Asia in the Changing World: Towards a Shared Future.” It will concentrate on fostering dialogue, promoting international cooperation, and addressing global challenges such as inclusive development and sustainable development goals. Participation is confirmed by numerous leaders, officials, and entrepreneurs, emphasizing the event’s significance in shaping regional and global economic discussions.
