US Trade Policies and Global Order Discussed at Raisina Dialogue 2023
The Raisina Dialogue, in its 10th year, will focus on US trade policies and global order, attracting over 120 countries. Highlights include discussions on major conflicts and six key thematic pillars. India and New Zealand’s ties will be strengthened through a renewed focus on trade agreements, particularly under Prime Minister Chris Luxon’s upcoming visit.
The Raisina Dialogue, now in its 10th edition, is being organized by the Indian Ministry of External Affairs and the Observer Research Foundation (ORF). This year, the focus includes the implications of US trade policies, the transformation of the global order, and ongoing conflicts in Ukraine and West Asia. The event has attracted participation from representatives across more than 120 countries, including ministers and esteemed leaders from various sectors.
The conference will host foreign ministers from 20 nations, such as Ukraine, the Maldives, Nepal, Bhutan, Peru, Norway, Estonia, Sweden, Hungary, and Ghana. Under the theme “Kālachakra – People, Peace and Planet,” the dialogue will prioritize six thematic pillars including Politics Interrupted, Resolving the Green Trilemma, and Investing in Peace.
Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met Prime Minister Chris Luxon of New Zealand on Sunday, expressing appreciation for the commitment to deepen their historic ties. Both leaders are set to review and discuss their bilateral relations on Monday, reflecting a commitment to enhance cooperation across various sectors.
In a related development, India and New Zealand have agreed to resume negotiations for a comprehensive free trade agreement. This decision was made during a meeting between Indian Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal and New Zealand’s Todd McClay. Luxon emphasized the importance of improving trade and security relationships between the two nations, highlighting the desirability of securing a trade deal.
The Raisina Dialogue serves as a pivotal platform for discussing critical global issues, including trade policies and geopolitical dynamics. With representatives from diverse nations, the conference will aim to foster dialogue and collaborations, particularly between India and New Zealand, as both countries seek to strengthen their bilateral relationship and trade agreements. The themes explored during the event will address essential global challenges and partnerships moving forward.
