During her discussions, Gabbard addressed President Trump’s tariff threats, emphasizing the establishment of a direct dialogue between the two nations at the highest levels.

In her remarks on the tariff issue, Gabbard conveyed optimism regarding the U.S.-India economic relationship, stating that discussions with Indian government officials have revealed opportunities for enhancement. She remarked, “Prime Minister Modi is looking out for what is in the best interest of India’s economy and the opportunities available to the people of India.” She also noted that President Trump is pursuing similar goals for the United States and the American populace.

Gabbard highlighted that both leaders are in pursuit of a “good solution” concerning tariffs. She remarked, “What I see as a great positive is that we have two leaders who have common sense and are looking for good solutions.” She underscored the importance of direct dialogue not only at the presidential level but also among key cabinet members to pave a path forward in U.S.-India relations.

Reflecting on personal influences, Gabbard shared how she draws strength from Lord Krishna’s teachings in the Mahabharata, particularly during times of turmoil. She explained, “Whether serving in war zones in different parts of the world or the challenges that we face now, it is (Lord) Krishna’s teachings to Arjuna in the Bhagavad Gita that I turn to in the best of times and the worst of times.”

Earlier during her visit, Gabbard engaged in comprehensive discussions with India’s Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, focusing on enhancing U.S.-India strategic ties, particularly in defense and information sharing. Singh expressed his satisfaction with their meeting and emphasized the conversation’s objective to deepen the partnership between the two nations. Gabbard also met with National Security Advisor Ajit Doval to discuss various aspects of the Indo-U.S. relationship in further depth.
