According to data from the International Trade Centre (ITC) and the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Việt Nam has become Brazil’s second largest seafood supplier, accounting for 17.33% of total volume and 8.69% of total import value. This development signifies the growing demand for seafood in Brazil, alongside Việt Nam’s increasing contribution to the global seafood landscape.
In 2024, Brazil’s seafood imports reached 291,600 tonnes, with an approximate value of $1.57 billion. This represents an 8.1% rise in volume and a 10.4% increase in value from the previous year. The heightened demand is linked to changing consumer preferences and a shift towards healthier dietary choices.
Brazil has notably increased imports from various countries such as Chile, China, Argentina, Ecuador, and the United States. However, the most significant growth surfaced from Việt Nam, with a substantial 53.8% increase in volume and a 38.6% rise in value, amounting to 50,500 tonnes valued at $136.6 million.
Việt Nam’s seafood exports have exhibited resilience, with February exports reaching $655.02 million. This marks an impressive 44.5% increase compared to the prior month. For the first two months of 2025, total seafood exports reached $1.42 billion, demonstrating a 19% year-on-year growth.
The principal markets for Vietnamese seafood exports include China, Japan, and the United States, which collectively comprise 52.33% of the total export value. The positive growth trend in these markets is vital for maintaining export momentum.
Experts assert that the outlook for Vietnamese seafood exports is promising.
