Samoan Club Marist Saint Joseph Aims for Victory in Marist 7s Tournament
The Marist Saint Joseph rugby club from Samoa aims to win the Marist 7s tournament, as expressed by assistant coach Malo Osa. They are joined by Faleata Sports Domain, both featuring former top players. The tournament begins tomorrow in Suva, with both clubs eager to demonstrate their skills and heritage.
The Marist Saint Joseph club from Samoa, through assistant coach Malo Osa, has expressed their determination to win the Marist 7s tournament. Speaking to FBC Sports after the team managers’ briefing in Suva, Osa stated, “We are here to take the Cup home.”
Marist Saint Joseph and Faleata Sports Domain are the two prominent Samoan clubs participating in this year’s competition. Both clubs have a history of producing outstanding players such as Uale Mai, David Lemi, and current Moana Pasifika star Lalomilo Lalomilo.
Osa emphasized that their goal extends beyond mere participation. He noted, “Well the Marist St Joseph is here to take the Cup home. We made a decision to come here, and this one is a huge experience for us; we want to experience the atmosphere and experience the Fiji level.”
Furthermore, Faleata manager Mark Joseph Finau highlighted their club’s recent successes, mentioning that both his team and Marist St Joseph had defeated the Samoan national team in a previous tournament. He noted the inclusion of former Manu Samoa 7s stars, including Elia Tolufale and David Tavita, in order to represent the Samoan community.
In terms of competition structure, the Faleata club finds themselves in Pool D alongside Bureta Young Boys, Brothers, and Flame Tree Waimanu. Conversely, Marist St Joseph is grouped in Pool C with Dominion Brothers, Nawaka, and Namosi Highlanders. The Marist 7s tournament begins at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva tomorrow, and local and international audiences can enjoy the event via live streaming on VITI+.
