Zelenskyy and Trump to Address Truce Technicalities in Saudi Arabia
U.S. President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Zelenskyy are set to discuss a technical truce to halt strikes on energy infrastructures. Zelenskyy has indicated Ukraine’s readiness to embrace this initiative, with meetings planned in Saudi Arabia among representatives from both nations to push for peace.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and U.S. President Donald Trump have agreed to discuss the technicalities of a partial truce aimed at halting strikes on energy and civilian infrastructure. Following their conversation on March 19, Zelenskyy expressed support for ceasing attacks on these essential structures, indicating that “Ukraine confirmed that we are ready to implement it.”
Zelenskyy announced that they have instructed their teams to address the technical elements concerning the implementation and potential expansion of the ceasefire. He noted that Ukrainian and American teams are scheduled to convene in Saudi Arabia soon to further coordinate their steps toward achieving peace.
Furthermore, Zelenskyy elaborated that the representatives from both nations during their upcoming meetings are positioned to finalize critical aspects necessary for fostering enduring peace and security guarantees. Trump characterized his phone conversation with Zelenskyy as “very good,” mentioning that discussions were substantially informed by his prior talk with Putin.
During the dialogue on March 18, it was revealed that Putin dismissively rejected a proposed 30-day ceasefire, which Ukraine had already agreed to, advocating instead for both sides to forgo attacks on energy facilities for the same period. Despite this arrangement, Zelenskyy reported Russia’s recent attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, contradicting Putin’s directives for a cessation in strikes.
In summary, Presidents Zelenskyy and Trump are collaborating on discussions to establish a partial truce focused on energy and civilian infrastructure. Notably, Ukrainian teams are prepared to meet with their American counterparts in Saudi Arabia to iron out technical details, signifying a committed approach toward peace amid ongoing tensions. The talks follow a complex relationship with Russia, wherein conflicting messages about ceasefire agreements continue to emerge.
