Liam Lawson Reflects on Challenges Leading to SQ1 Exit in China
Liam Lawson cited tire cooling issues as the reason for his poor performance in Sprint Qualifying, finishing last in China. He expressed his disappointment over not capitalizing on a promising start, leading to a challenging P20 grid position for the Sprint race.
Liam Lawson attributed his struggles during Sprint Qualifying in China to an inability to cool his tires adequately between laps, which ultimately resulted in him recording the slowest time on Friday. After a disappointing start to the season in Australia, Lawson faced similar challenges with the Red Bull RB21 in China, placing him significantly behind his teammate Max Verstappen, who qualified second.
During an interview, Lawson expressed regret over his performance, apologizing to his engineer immediately upon realizing the P20 start he would have for the upcoming Sprint race. He described his early elimination from SQ1 as disappointing, stating, “It’s obviously a shame.”
He recounted his struggle with tire temperatures, noting, “Basically we started too hot and then through the lap I just struggled.
