In a notable performance at the Fribourg Track Lab 2024 athletics meet held in Switzerland, Indian athlete Avinash Sable claimed third place in the steeplechase mile event on Sunday. Competing at the Stade Universitaire St-Léonard, Sable recorded a time of 4:17.70. The event was won by Ethiopia’s Abrham Sime, who finished with a remarkable time of 4:14.36, followed closely by France’s Nicolas-Marie Daru, who secured second place with a time of 4:15.67.

This particular race, introduced on a trial basis by World Athletics to add excitement and a faster pace to competitions, adheres to standard steeplechase rules but intensifies the overall racing experience. Tracklab, which organizes this league, serves as a platform for both elite and youth athletes, offering essential training and qualification opportunities in track and field.

The appearance in Fribourg marks Avinash Sable’s second competition since the Paris 2024 Olympics, where he placed 11th in the men’s 3000m steeplechase, clocking in at 8:14.18. Prior to this meet, he also finished 14th in the men’s 3000m steeplechase at the Silesia Diamond League 2024. Avinash Sable, an accomplished athlete and Asian Games champion in his field, continues to exhibit determination and skill at international events.

In a related performance earlier the same day, fellow Indian athlete Parul Chaudhary achieved a personal best in the women’s 2000m steeplechase at the ISTAF Berlin athletics competition, a silver-level event. Chaudhary completed her race with a time of 6:14.38, significantly surpassing her previous best of 6:52.82 set in 2014. The race was dominated by Germany’s three-time Olympian Gesa Felicitas Krause, who recorded a world-leading time of 5:56.77.

These results highlight the ongoing endeavors of Indian athletes on the international athletics stage, showcasing both individual achievements and the evolving nature of track and field events.
