On Day 9 of the Paris 2024 Paralympics, India witnessed notable performances in various sporting events. Kasthuri Rajamani, who competed in the women’s para powerlifting event up to 67 kg, faced challenges, attempting to lift 110 kg but ultimately finishing in eighth place without registering a successful lift. She managed to lift 106 kg in her second attempt but was unable to improve her standing further.

In contrast to Kasthuri’s performance, Praveen Kumar clinched gold in the men’s high jump T64 final, setting a new Asian record by clearing 2.08 meters. Despite a close competition where he initially faced a tie at 2.00 meters, he ultimately stood out by exceeding his previous personal best and securing his victory.

The day also marked India’s first gold medal in judo, with Kapil Parmar earning a bronze medal in the men’s 60 kg (J1) category yesterday, signifying a historic achievement for the nation.

As of the latest medal standings, India ranks fourteenth in the overall medal tally, following Praveen Kumar’s victory. The medal tally shows China leading with a remarkable 74 golds overall.

The Indian contingent continues to showcase their talent and determination as they participate in subsequent events, with multiple athletes set to compete later today, including Bhavanaben Ajabaji Chaudhary in the women’s javelin throw F46 final and Simran in the women’s 200m T12 semifinals.
