Highlights from Day 10 of the Paris 2024 Paralympics: Navdeep’s Gold and Simran’s Silver
On September 7, 2024, during Day 10 of the Paris Paralympics, the Indian contingent achieved significant milestones by securing two pivotal medals, thus elevating India’s overall medal tally to 29. Notably, Navdeep emerged victorious in the men’s javelin F41 final, initially recording a personal best throw of 47.32 meters, which was briefly deemed silver until a subsequent disqualification of Iran’s Sadegh Beit Sayah for misconduct awarded him gold. Simultaneously, Simran showcased her talent in the women’s 200m T12 race, clinching a commendable bronze medal.
Despite a lack of success in some events, such as Dilip Gavit finishing last in the men’s 400m T47 final, the achievements of Navdeep and Simran contributed significantly to India’s historic performance at the Games. The nation now prides itself on having attained six gold medals, marking its best performance to date in any single Paralympic edition.
In recognition of their efforts, Indian athletes received a warm welcome at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport, celebrating their remarkable accomplishments. As the Paralympics approach their conclusion, the Indian team expresses a hopeful outlook towards potentially achieving 30 total medals, a milestone that would further underscore their dedication and resilience in competitive sports.
